General Tanning Questions

  • How often can I tan?

We recommend tanning no more than once in a 24-hour period. For the best results, most people tan 2–3 times per week while building a base tan, then 1–2 times per week to maintain it.

  • How long does a tanning session last?

Sessions typically last between 8 and 15 minutes, depending on the bed and your skin type. Our staff will guide you on the right session length for safe and effective results.

  • How many sessions will it take to see results?

Most people notice a difference after just 1–3 sessions, but building a deep, even base tan usually takes 6–10 sessions. Results vary depending on your skin type and consistency.

  • Do I need an appointment, or do you accept walk-ins?

    Walk-ins are always welcome!

  • What should I wear during a tanning session?

You may wear a swimsuit, undergarments, or tan nude—it’s entirely up to you. Just remember that covered areas will not tan. All tanning beds are sanitized after each session for your safety.

Safety & Skin Care

  • Is indoor tanning safe?

Like any UV exposure, moderation is key. When used responsibly, our tanning equipment is designed to control UV levels. We’ll help you tan gradually and safely.

  • Do I need to wear eye protection?

Yes, absolutely! UV light can cause serious, long-term eye damage if you don’t protect your eyes. We provide FDA-approved goggles and require all clients to wear them during sessions.

  • Can I tan if I have sensitive skin?

Yes, but we recommend starting with shorter sessions and gradually building up. Our staff can suggest lotions designed for sensitive skin to help keep your skin comfortable.

  • Will tanning help clear up acne or other skin conditions?

Some clients notice temporary improvements, but tanning is not a medical treatment for acne or skin conditions. We recommend consulting your dermatologist before tanning if you have concerns.

  • Can I tan if I’m pregnant?

We recommend speaking with your doctor before tanning while pregnant. Spray tanning may be a safer alternative during pregnancy.

Spray Tanning / Sunless Options

  • How long does a spray tan last?

A spray tan typically lasts 5–7 days, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.

  • How should I prepare for a spray tan?

For best results, exfoliate and shave at least 24 hours before, avoid lotions or oils the day of, and wear loose, dark clothing to your appointment.

  • What should I do after a spray tan to make it last longer?

Avoid showering, swimming, or sweating heavily for 6–8 hours after your session. Keep your skin moisturized daily with an after-tan lotion to extend the life of your color. Tan Your Hide also recommends using our line of after tan bronzers to help you extend the life of your tan.

  • Will a spray tan look orange or streaky?

No—our solutions are designed for a natural, even color. Our trained technicians and high-quality products ensure you’ll get a smooth, sun-kissed glow without orange tones.

Tanning Lotions & Products

  • Do I need to use tanning lotion?

Yes. Indoor tanning lotions hydrate your skin, improve results, and extend your tan. Dry skin reflects UV light, which slows tanning progress.

  • What’s the difference between bronzers, accelerators, and intensifiers?

    • Bronzers: Add instant or delayed color for a deeper glow.
    • Accelerators/Maximizers: Help your skin start tanning faster by stimulating melanin.
    • Intensifiers: Focus on deepening your natural color without added bronzers.

  • Can I bring my own lotion, or do I have to buy yours?

For safety reasons, we only allow indoor tanning lotions (no outdoor oils or SPF products). Tan Your Hide carries a full line of professional tanning lotions specifically made for indoor tanning.

  • Do you sell after-tan moisturizers?

Yes! We carry specially formulated after-tan moisturizers that keep your skin hydrated and help maintain your tan longer.

  • Do you offer monthly memberships or packages?

Yes—we offer flexible memberships and session packages to fit every budget and tanning need. Ask our staff about current specials!

Results & Maintenance

  • How long will my tan last?

A UV tan generally lasts about 5–10 days before fading, depending on your skin type, care routine, and frequency of tanning.

  • Will tanning protect me from sunburn?

No. While a tan offers minimal protection, it is not a substitute for sunscreen. Always use SPF outdoors.

  • How do I maintain my tan longer?

    • Keep your skin hydrated with daily moisturizers
    • Avoid long, hot showers that dry out skin
    • Exfoliate gently every few days
    • Continue tanning regularly or maintain with spray tans
